Newsletter 9th January 2026

Headteacher’s Message Happy New Year to all of our lovely families at Skerton St Luke’s. I hope you all enjoyed a magical Christmas with your loved ones and that you managed to also find some time to rest and relax. I personally really love a new year – it feels like a blank page, a chance to reset and refocus, as well as an exciting opportunity to make plans for new adventures. As a staff team, we are excited to be back in school and continuing to work hard for our pupils. We welcome back Mrs Wood from maternity leave who has resumed her role as Year 3 class teacher. It is lovely to have her back and to see the class so settled already is a real compliment to her. In a few weeks, we will be launching an exciting new project to support with getting to school every day and making sure that we are on time. These are really important targets for us to continue to focus and work on so watch this space for more information and how all of our families can get involved!

Medicines in School

Please be advised that we are only able to administer medications in school that have been prescribed by a doctor. If you have medicine that you wish us to give during the school day, then you must complete a consent form (from the Office or Early Birds team). Any other un-prescribed medicines (such as Calpol or Piriton) cannot be given by school staff. You are, however, more than welcome to pop in during the day to administer those yourself, if you are able to.

During the winter months, we know many children will experience chapped lips. We do allow lip balms in school for medicinal purposes only. We advise using recognised products like Vaseline or Nivea sticks. Please avoid any flavoured lip balms or anything with colour tints. If you send your child with lip balm please make sure that it is labelled with your child’s name and that you explain to them that it should not be shared with their  friends.

Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation with this.

Late Arrivals

A polite reminder please that children who arrive late should be brought into the office by an adult and signed in.

Poetry Competition

It would be wonderful to see some of our fantastic writers at Skerton St Luke’s working on an entry to this competition. If you wish to enter, it is always a good idea to draft your poem first and then type up on Word. If you don’t have a computer at home, we can organise time during lunch hours for you to use a school one. Please send in finished poems by 13th Feb to Mrs Goodwin and we will scan them over to the organisers.

Eco Warriors

Our Eco Warriors have been hard at work to see how we can be more sustainable and help the environment.

We will now be recycling old batteries in school and from Monday 12th January there will be a recycling box in the school office for you to place your old batteries in. Recycling batteries is crucial for protecting the environment, conserving resources and ensuring public safety.

Our warriors would also like to ask you to save and recycle your crisp packets.

Recycling crisps packets helps to reduce landfill waste and contributes to a healthier planet. It is also a simple way to contribute to sustainability so from Monday 12th January  please pop your empty crisp packets into the ‘Crisp  Recycle’ bin in the office

Testimonials

It’s a lovely community. We all feel like a part of St Luke’s family. My child loves her teachers and knows other members of staff. It’s lovely to walk into school and people know my child’s name and always say hello to her, even teachers from other classes or Mrs Armistead.

Parent

I know when I drop my kids off they are happy and safe and they both enjoy their time in school.

Parent

Thank you for not only teaching my daughter but also caring for her. She’s really happy at school and is making great progress in all areas of learning.

Parent

The staff have been so supportive of my child with Special Educational Needs. They are amazing and it makes me confident that my daughter is well looked after and if she has any problems they will help.

Parent of a child with SEND

The Reception Open Day really showed the school in a good light. The Headteacher showed us round and knew all of the pupil’s names. All of the children we met were friendly and polite but more importantly they were all smiling whilst learning.

Prospective Parent

Teachers are very helpful, friendly and approachable
