Newsletter 3rd October 2025

Headteacher’s Message Thank you to all of you who managed to complete our parent survey last week. Your feedback is really important to me. It was lovely to hear about all the things that are going well and how you think we can continue to get better. We will now take some time to consider our responses so look out for our response in a couple of weeks! Please remember, you never have to wait for a survey to share your ideas or concerns with us. I’m out in the gate whenever my diary will allow and I love to chat to you all so please come and talk with me. This week, in Worship, we have explored our school vision: Live, Learn, Thrive: Love God, Love each other Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind…Love your neighbour as yourself. (Luke 10:27) As a new addition to the Skerton family, I have certainly felt the power of the ‘love’ at our wonderful school and I am certain that is what makes it feel so very special. Through God’s love and by following the example of Jesus Christ, we continue to build together a community centred on love, respect and care for one another which can only get stronger

Attendance and Punctuality

There is a wealth of evidence and research now about the importance of ensuring that your child is in school every day and on time. Not only can poor attendance and punctuality affect your children now but also their prospects moving forwards. Your support in this is very much appreciated.

FIRST DAY RESPONSE

If your child is off school for any reason, it is very important that you ring us to let us know before 9.00am. The reason for this is that we need to ensure the safety of all children who attend the school and, until we hear from you with a reason for your child's absence, we cannot assume that they are safe and at home.

If your child is not in school by 9:25am and we do not know why, a member of staff will  text or phone you to      discuss this.  If we are unable to get hold of you, we will then phone the emergency contacts that we hold on file for your child and we may also carry out a home visit.

If your contact details change in anyway, or those of the people you have listed as emergency contacts, then we ask that you tell us immediately so that we can amend our records and are able to contact you if needed.

To avoid any unnecessary phone calls, please ensure that you call school on 01524 65445 BEFORE 9.00 IF YOUR CHILD IS UNABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL or message us via the school app.

Thank you, in advance for your support and cooperation with this.

Harvest Thanks!

Harvest is a season of thanksgiving. We take time to thank God for his unending love for us and for the blessing of food that we may feel nourished in mind and body. We never forget the challenges that these tough economic times can have with many us feeling a real squeeze on our family budgets. With that in mind, we offer a huge thank you to those who were able to make a donation of food this year. The donations will be shared between the Food Bank and the Food Club, both of which we know make a massive difference to the families in our community.

The harvest celebrations continue this year with a special all-ages Harvest service at our local church, St Luke’s at 11pm this Sunday. Rev Nikki always has plenty up her sleeve to keep the children entertained and engaged in the service and it is a great opportunity to meet some more families in our    local area.

Harvest Thanks!

Secondary Church Schools

Rev Nikki has asked us to remind you that if you are hoping to gain a place as a Church secondary school, such as Ripley St Thomas, regular church attendance needs to be collected from the year that your child enters Year 4 in order to gain the maximum amount of points.

Some parents believe that 2 years of attendance is needed so start to attend when their child enters Year 5. However, as the applications for  secondary schools happen  early in Year 6, you need to start attending  early in Year 4 in order to get the maximum

Congratulations to Mr Craig

A huge congratulation to Mr Craig who has been competing in the World Championships of Adapted Cross Fit in the USA. Adapted CrossFit is a modified version of traditional CrossFit designed to make functional fitness accessible and inclusive for individuals with physical, cognitive, or sensory disabilities. It follows the same principles of CrossFit—constantly varied, high-intensity workouts  using functional movements—but adapts exercises, equipment, and coaching techniques to meet each athlete’s abilities and needs. The goal is to improve strength, endurance, mobility, and overall fitness while fostering confidence

Mr Craig says...

"CrossFit is a high-intensity fitness program that combines elements of weightlifting, cardio, and bodyweight exercises to build strength, endurance, and overall fitness. It focuses on constantly varied, functional movements—like lifting, running, jumping, and pulling—that mimic real-life activities. Workouts, often called WODs (Workouts of the Day), are scalable to any fitness level, making CrossFit accessible to beginners and elite athletes alike.  Beyond physical training, CrossFit emphasises community, teamwork, and personal growth.

Out of 55 Adapted athletes in the seated 2 division and undertaking 8 brutal workouts and scoring in the top 11 in the world I qualified to travel to Vegas to compete in my  second adapted crossfit games in Las Vegas, where athletes from all over the world compete in 16 different divisions including seated, Neuro, single or double extremity

WELL DONE MR CRAIG!

Congratulations to Mr Craig

Testimonials

It’s a lovely community. We all feel like a part of St Luke’s family. My child loves her teachers and knows other members of staff. It’s lovely to walk into school and people know my child’s name and always say hello to her, even teachers from other classes or Mrs Armistead.

Parent

I know when I drop my kids off they are happy and safe and they both enjoy their time in school.

Parent

Thank you for not only teaching my daughter but also caring for her. She’s really happy at school and is making great progress in all areas of learning.

Parent

The staff have been so supportive of my child with Special Educational Needs. They are amazing and it makes me confident that my daughter is well looked after and if she has any problems they will help.

Parent of a child with SEND

The Reception Open Day really showed the school in a good light. The Headteacher showed us round and knew all of the pupil’s names. All of the children we met were friendly and polite but more importantly they were all smiling whilst learning.

Prospective Parent

Teachers are very helpful, friendly and approachable
