Recent legislation requires teachers to log details of why children are absent from school. Returns have to be sent to the Authority indicating 'unauthorised' absences. If your child has to be absent for some reason, please let the school know as soon as possible by telephone at the start of the absence and by sending a note to the classteacher on your child's return to school. Failure to do this will result in your child being registered as an unauthorised absence. The Headteacher has the discretion to authorise an absence or not as the case may be. With regards to holidays taken during term time, Mrs Armistead will only authorise absence in exceptional circumstances. A meeting must be arranged with the Headteacher to discuss any holidays before they are booked/taken.
School have an automated telephone system whereby you are able to leave a message regarding your childs absence.
ALL medical appointments must be supported by an official letter or card confirming date and time of appointment. Please try and arrange appointments after school or during school holidays. If this is not possible, it is suggested your child registers in the morning or lunchtime before leaving for their appointment.
Application for absence from school: Holiday / Extended Leave
Parents wishing to apply for their child to be granted leave from school should first request a meeting with the Headteacher Mrs Armistead to discuss, then complete the necessary paperwork. Parents do not have an automatic right to take their children out of school for holidays during term time and may be issued with a Penalty Notice.
Thresholds for Penalty Notice
10 Sessions of unauthorised absence in a term
14 Sessions of unauthorised absence in two consecutive terms
(Mornings and afternoons are 1 session each therefore a day is 2 sessions)
Unauthorised sessions are registered for the following reasons;
Late arrival after register is closed which is 9.15am
Absence without telephone call on first day or a letter to support reason on return.
Parents may now be issued with up to 3 penalty notices in a year.
